Prof. Dr. Abdullah Hemmet Abdullah – Affiliate Researcher
Prof. Dr. Abdullah Hemmet Abdullah is an Associate Professor of International Law at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Islamic University of Gaza, and an Associate Professor of Islamic Thought and Civilization. He is also affiliated with the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), where he is completing his doctoral research. His dissertation examines intellectual security, globalisation, Islamic identity, renewal (tajdid), ijtihad, and Maqasid al-Shariah, and is currently at the dissertation defence stage.
His interdisciplinary research spans international law, international relations, Islamic thought and civilisation, conflict resolution and peace studies, artificial intelligence ethics and governance, interfaith diplomacy, human security, and global governance. His scholarship explores the intersection of classical Islamic intellectual traditions with contemporary global challenges, offering policy-relevant perspectives on governance, justice, peacebuilding, identity, and ethical innovation.
Prof. Abdullah has authored and contributed to books, peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and policy-oriented publications on contemporary Islamic thought, religious authority, international legal order, digital governance, civilisational dialogue, and the ethical implications of emerging technologies. His work is distinguished by its commitment to bridging scholarly inquiry with practical policy engagement.
At London Dialogue, Prof. Abdullah contributes to research on international law, peace and conflict studies, Islamic thought, AI governance and ethics, global governance, human security, and intercivilisational dialogue, supporting the institute’s mission to advance evidence-based research and informed policy discussions on contemporary global and strategic affairs.
