Dr Annie Waqar

Dr Annie Waqar is an accomplished academic with over ten years of experience as a lecturer, having taught at both the University of Surrey and the University of Westminster. She continues to serve as a visiting lecturer and course developer, designing and delivering engaging academic courses for students. Dr Annie is also a dedicated humanitarian, committed to making a positive impact in communities across South Asia and the Middle East.

As a media personality, she has participated in numerous podcasts and interviews on geopolitics in the Middle East and South Asia, sharing informed insights on critical global issues. Her extensive research background centres on nuclear security in South Asia and the Middle East, defence, arms control, and international relations. Proficient in four languages, Dr Annie has made significant contributions to the academic community through collaborations with various think tanks and by delivering lectures and workshops at universities across the UK, the US, Europe, and South Asia.

Dr Annie has more than eleven years of experience as a Goodwill Ambassador in over seven South Asian countries, demonstrating her long-standing commitment to humanitarian work. Her expertise spans media engagement, social development, education, and human rights advocacy. She joined UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador for Commonwealth countries in 2002, making a notable impact in these areas.

After completing her PhD at the University of Surrey in 2014, Dr Annie worked as a research analyst for prominent think tanks. She later transitioned into freelance academic consultancy, delivering lectures and running short courses at universities across the UK and Europe on security and defence. Notably, she has successfully organised summer schools at the University of Oxford and collaborates with various university departments in the UK to design and deliver short academic courses for British military and NATO officials.

In addition, Dr Annie continues to produce policy papers on nuclear non‑proliferation and disarmament relating to South Asia and the Middle East. Her goal is to work with international organisations on analysis, advocacy, and communication, enhancing understanding of how global processes affect individuals, businesses, and governments worldwide.
